Product Update: The Future of GamerBase and our Fan-Stack

After wrapping up the XBG Presale on a high note, our team swiftly shifted focus back to product development. While a lot has been happening behind the scenes, we haven’t taken the time to provide the product updates our community deserves — until now.

In today’s article, we’ll discuss the shift away from GamerBase to scale our white-label solution, the evolution of our product strategy, and what’s on the horizon for this year.

Back to basics: Why we launched GamerBase

Our discussions with Team BDS and a few other teams began back in 2022. It was important for us to co-build our infrastructure with the organisations that would ultimately use it.

However, theory & planning aren’t enough — we needed to test our assumptions and gather user feedback before launching the first white-label fan application for an esports team.

GamerBase was our proof of concept. It allowed any community (including ours) to set up a base, gamify community engagement, and let users leverage their identity to get rewarded.

In total, 24’608 users signed up, completed over 250,000 quests, and gave us a tremendous amount of useful feedback to improve our infrastructure.

Managing focus and bandwidth

Following the public launch of our first fan app for Ninjas in Pyjamas and as we geared up to launch apps for other teams, GamerBase became less of a priority. While it gained traction, it wasn’t fully aligned with our go-to-market strategy. Ensuring a high-quality user experience for players and communities on GamerBase was becoming incompatible with our goal of building the world’s largest player identity protocol to drive the evolution of online experiences. That’s why we eventually decided to sideline GamerBase.

Building scalable products

From day one, we knew that building fully custom white-label applications wouldn’t be scalable. To become the largest player identity protocol and empower hundreds, even thousands, of organisations to build next-gen applications, we needed to focus on scalability. Our team has been working tirelessly to enhance our infrastructure, making it easier to launch white-label apps and has started developing an SDK to let other developers build apps from scratch on top of our protocol.

With the arrival of Nicolas, a former senior product designer at Blitz, we decided to launch a simplified version of our white-label fan app solution. This will make it easier for esports teams and content creators to build identity-powered applications on our protocol. This product will unlock the next phase of growth for XBorg, as our pipeline of new partners continues to grow each week.

The Future of XBorg Protocol & GamerBase

In the short term, our focus remains on building great identity-powered apps for leading esports teams. There are a lot of exciting teams we’re working with that we look forward to announcing.

GamerBase will not re-open and most of the communities that had a base on GamerBase will migrate to custom-branded solutions once our new scalable white-label apps launch this summer.

The XBorg Base, which we used to reward our community via GamerBase, will also migrate to a separate white-label app. This will allow us to engage and reward our members like Ninjas in Pyjamas does with The Dojo and Team Liquid with Collectiblues. The Epoch #2 campaign, your avatar and progress, and many other cool features will be accessible again on this new community hub, using the same infrastructure as our esports team apps.

Moving forward, we will be more proactive in updating our community on product developments and decisions, via community townhalls and monthly reviews. We’re looking forward to the next growth phase at XBorg and can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on.
